1.      Question: How are the scholarship recipients chosen?

Answer: Scholarship recipients are chosen based upon the following criteria: character, scholarship, leadership, overcoming hardship, extra-curricular activities, financial need, essays, references.

2.      Question: Where does my donation money go and how do I know that it is not spent frivolously?

Answer:  All contributions are sent to the Best Education Foundation, a 501-c3 Education Foundation set up and managed by the Garland Independent School District for this very purpose…to accrue and fund resources for student scholarships.  When an awarded scholarship is redeemed by a student, she must first enroll in the higher learning institution of choice, and that school collects scholarship dollars directly from the GISD Best Education Foundation.  The scholarship recipient can only redeem one-half of the available funds in the first semester and, with good grades, the remaining funds in the second semester.  The student never touches the money, and the second funding is dependent upon success in the first term.

3.      Question:  How many girls receive a scholarship each year and for how much?

Answer: Generally, from three to five kids will receive a scholarship, depending upon the total amount of donation funds received that year.  To date, scholarships have ranged from $500 – $1000 each. We would like to fund more deserving kids with larger scholarships.

4.      Question:  Is my donation tax deductible?

Answer: Yes, and you will receive a hard copy receipt from Best Education Foundation, a 501-c3 Education Foundation.

5.      Question:  Why should I contribute?

Answer:  The money you contribute provides a chance, and a start, to a good kid who may not be able to go to college otherwise.  These overachieving girls are on their way to becoming contributing members of society and leaders in the next generation.
