The Bettie Hudson Memorial Scholarship Fund honors and assists South Garland High School Senior girls who need a helping hand. Each year since 2012, funds up to $3,500 have been granted in scholarships to well deserving seniors. Our Goal is to exceed this amount in 2018 in order to make a greater difference in the lives of several great kids.
Inspiration for this Scholarship Fund: Bettie Hudson, former SG Home Economics Teacher and mother of Gaines Baty, SG Class of ’69 and Larry Baty Class of ’73. Mrs. Hudson was once a single widowed mother facing serious struggles and hardships who exhibited remarkable strength, courage, tenacity and grace as she pursued her own academic career and became one of the most successful and popular teachers at South Garland.
SGHS Scholarship Award Criteria: The award will be given to one or more graduating senior girls who best meet the following criteria:
- Character
- Leadership
- Academic achievements/standing
- Extracurricular activities
- Accomplishments
- Personal fortitude
- Aspirations
- Financial need
