We are honored to make a difference in the lives of great kids who can make this world a better place…

The seventeen year old self appointed head of her household and younger siblings. A high school senior whose big sister (and best example) was killed recently. A daughter whose dad died when she was three. A kid whose father is incarcerated.

Total family incomes range from $11,000 to $41,000.

These same girls’ accomplishments, activities and awards include: A 4.53 GPA. Numbers 1, 8, 9, 11, 21, 25 and 27 of 475 class ranking. President of the Hispanic Student Association. Their Aspirations include: to be a dentist, a nurse, a teacher, an accountant, an architect, a radiologist, a veterinarian, a surgeon.

These girls’ driving motivations include: To never give up, no matter what the circumstances. To do her best no matter how bad things are at home. To participate in many extracurricular activities because things are so bad at home. The first in the family to go to college. To set a good example for her younger siblings. To make her deceased sister proud. To make her single mother proud.

These are the actual lives and stories of several female high school seniors deemed most worthy of The Bettie Hudson Memorial Scholarship at South Garland High School. They all have willed themselves to rise above the hardships that surround them daily, to excel in life and to make a difference. We are inspired by all these young ladies.

This scholarship is named after a woman who, as a widowed mother, exhibited remarkable strength, courage, tenacity and grace in the face of her own hardships. The award is intended to be presented to most worthy young ladies, with similar qualities, each year. But all are worthy, and all need a boost. This presents an opportunity. We want to do more. We’d like to help fund the start of more of these girls’ educations.

Would you be willing to help? Your donation will help a motivated young person/great kids go to college each year. If you can send $50, $100, $500 or more, 100% of it will go to a great cause.
